I’m in clinical now but I still feel pretty useless. The role we play in the ward is secondary to that of the doctors (and the nurses!)

    KY and barbie (lol!):

    You are wrong.

The only reason why you are feeling useless is because your pharmacy knowledge is still developing. Once you have a firm grasp on it, you will be able to play your role properly. Another advantage you have over doctors is the luxury of time. Yes, I understand that you too are burdened with many things but we remain the only profession with the luxury of being able to sit down and properly converse with patients. I often feel that being ONLY the pharmacist means that I am the ONLY one that can truly communicate with them.

Start talking to patients and finding out their problems. Try to develop your soft skills and your communication skills and you will discover that there is a whole lot of good that you can do which others cannot.
